Effects of Maternity Education before Discharge on Postpartum Self-care and Newborn Baby Care

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find out what impacts the maternity education before dscharge make on the knowledge and to practise degree of postpartum self-care and newborn baby care.

Method: To measure the effects of the postpartum education programs, the method of randomized control-group posttest-only design was used. There were 51 subjects in the experimental group and the control group respectively, whlch made up a total 102 of subjects all together. In thls study, pre-dscharge education waz provided to experimental group only. The data were analyzed using SPSS Window 11.0. Actual demand, percentage, xz-test and & Two-way Anova were used for analysis.

Result: The experimental group, who received postpartum education program, showed better knowledge(F=6,00,p=.008a)n d practice (F=13.49,p=.000)ins elf-care and during the postpartum than the control group(F=5.21, p=.007). As well, the experimental group showed better knowledge(F=3.42, p=.037) and practice(F=5.21, p=.007) in newborn baby care during the postpartum than th control group.

Conclusion: It was proved that the maternity education before discharge made significant impacts on knowledge and practice degree regarding postpartum self-care and newborn baby care.
